Inn Name Generator
An inn's name is a promise made to tired people: food, fire, a bed, no trouble. These names are built to keep that promise.
Sample inn names
Notice the vocabulary difference from the tavern page: rests, hearths and havens instead of dragons and tankards.

An inn name is a promise, not a brag
Where a tavern name shows off, an inn name reassures. The word banks here are built from the two halves of that reassurance: who the inn is for — Wayfarer, Pilgrim, Traveller — and what it guarantees — Rest, Hearth, Haven, Shelter, a Table, a Door that opens. A name like The Pilgrim's Door tells a footsore stranger everything in three words: people like you stop here, and you will be let in. Even the grander entries keep the promise modest: The Silver Shelter still leads with shelter.
The three name shapes rotate on purpose. The Wayfarer's Rest is the personal form — best for a family-run house with a known host. The Quiet Hearth is the quality form — best for a respectable inn on a market square. And Amber House Inn is the plain trade form, the one a coaching inn on a main road would use, all business and no poetry. Generate a handful and you'll feel the three registers cycle; pick the register before you pick the name.
Naming the place your party actually sleeps
In most game worlds the same building does both jobs — taproom below, beds above — so which generator should name it? Ask where the drama lives. If the scenes are negotiations, brawls and rumours over ale, name it with the tavern generator and let the beds be an afterthought. If the scenes are arrivals in the rain, strangers at the fire and news from the road, name it here. Veteran DMs sometimes generate one of each and use both: the inn's formal name on the deed, the tavern name on the sign — The Lantern Lodge, "known locally as The Laughing Goblet" — and let the players figure out why they differ.
Frequently asked questions
How does the inn name generator build names?
From two banks written for this page — traveller words (Wayfarer, Pilgrim, Lantern, Willow…) and comfort words (Rest, Hearth, Lodge, Haven, Shelter…) — in three shapes: 'The X's Y', 'The X Y' and 'X Y Inn'.
Why do inn names sound softer than tavern names?
Because the businesses sell different things. Taverns sell drink and company, so their names brag; inns sell rest and safety to tired travellers, so their names promise. The two generators use entirely separate word banks to keep those voices apart.
Can one building use both generators?
Yes — generate a formal inn name for the establishment and a tavern name for its taproom or local nickname. Players enjoy the small mystery of why the sign and the deed disagree.
