    Naming a character who belongs to both — and neither

    The half-elf naming question is really a backstory question: which world raised this person? A half-elf brought up in a human city often carries a plain human first name and thinks nothing of it; one raised in an elven court may have a name in the elven style that their human parent could barely pronounce. This generator's lists sit deliberately between those poles — first names like Theron and Elenora that could pass in either world, with surnames like Evenwood and Mistral that lean toward the woodland side. If your character is hiding one half of their heritage, generate until a name lands that could plausibly come from the side they're showing.

    Half-elves also make the best case in the game for the chosen name: many players give a half-elf a name they picked for themselves as an adult — a declaration of which world they intend to live in. The generator supports that reading too: generate a batch of ten, and let your character "choose" the one that sounds like the person they are deciding to become.

    A half-elf name pairs naturally with a class title — half-elves turn up in every profession, and the contrast is often the character. A half-elf bard with a stage name is practically a tradition; a half-elf paladin's oath-title states in public what their name leaves ambiguous.
